I always feel that whatever I say about my practice today will make me look like a fool tomorrow...
I am like a blade of grass, rooted in my core beliefs and the fundamentals of my practice, but I flex in the wind. I change and shift with new information, ideas and concepts, hopefully growing stronger along the way.
I believe that the human experience is informed in a physical way. Our physical senses dictate our emotional mindset and I believe that artists can employ that relationship. I create work that informs the viewers physical presence. I want them to engage with my work and feel big, small, comfortable, on edge, a drift, energized....
Fundamentally, I create work that shows the energy of its production. I want my work to feel grounded and natural but also to expose the evidence of purposeful human intention. I work with materials that are used, imperfect, useless and castaway because I relate to that sentiment. It has a universal resonance that is worth celebrating. I also like the temporal quality of those kind of materials. It speaks to our own earthly temporality.
